MOSCOW, July 23 Annual food inflation in Russia in June was 0.08 percent, which was the lowest level among all European countries, follows from the calculations.

The highest level of food inflation was still observed in Hungary, where for the first time in ten months it fell below 30 percent and amounted to 29.3 percent. In addition, annual price growth rates above 20 percent remained in Serbia (22.1 percent). The top 5 also included Estonia (19.5 percent), Slovakia (18.9 percent) and Romania (17.9 percent).
In addition to Russia, price growth rates in annual terms below ten percent in June were recorded in five more countries — Belarus (3.6 percent), Switzerland (5.1 percent), Portugal (8.6 percent), Denmark (8.8 percent) and Finland (9.2 percent).
Inflation slowed down in most European countries in early summer, most notably in Hungary (by 4.7 percentage points), Lithuania (by 3.8), Ukraine (by 3.6), Latvia (by 3.5) and Slovakia (by 2.8 percentage points).
At the same time, inflation accelerated in five countries of the region, most notably in Cyprus, where it accelerated to 10.12 percent from 8.38 percent in May, as well as in Russia ( plus 1.2 percentage points), in Malta (plus 0.9 percentage points), Norway (plus 0.8 percentage points) and Greece (plus 0.6 percentage points).
The study was conducted on the basis of data from the national statistical services of 40 European countries, which disclosed data for June as of mid-July. The food inflation indicator takes into account changes in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages.
