Wang Yi's return to the position of Chinese Foreign Minister appears to be a temporary solution. In all likelihood, he will remain in office until a permanent replacement is found, says Alexander Lukin, Head of the Department of International Relations at the Higher School of Economics, Research Director of the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who shared his vision of the situation with Lenta.ru.
He recalled the political tradition in China: the head of the Foreign Ministry, after he performs this position well, is transferred to a higher position. Wang Yi, as he recalled, received the post of head of the office of the Foreign Affairs Commission. Previously, he was in the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs (from 2013 to 2022), and now he has a higher position, Lukin said.
