DONETSK, July 25 Ukrainian troops fired 19 NATO-caliber 155-millimeter shells at the Petrovsky district of Donetsk, Yasinovataya and Makeyevka, the representative office of the republic in Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC).
«Fire was recorded from the AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) in the direction: 17.25 — the settlement of Orlovka — the settlement of Makeevka (Chervonogvardeisky district): four shells with a caliber of 155 millimeters were fired; 17.30 — the settlement of Orlovka — Yasinovatsky district: four shells with a caliber of 155 millimeters were fired ; 17.35 — Semyonovka settlement — Yasinovataya settlement: four shells with a caliber of 155 millimeters were fired; 17.45 — Maksimilyanovka settlement — the city of Donetsk (Petrovsky district): four shells with a caliber of 155 millimeters were fired,» the representative office said in the telegram channel.
Five minutes later, Ukrainian troops fired again at the Petrovsky district of Donetsk, firing three shells of NATO caliber 155 millimeters. The consequences are not reported.
Makeevka is a satellite city of Donetsk, adjacent to it from the northeast. In 2014, the population of Makeevka was about 350 thousand people. Chervonogvardeisky district is located in the western part of the city.
Yasinovataya is located about 25 kilometers north of Donetsk and houses the largest railway station in the former USSR.
Petrovsky district is located on the western outskirts of Donetsk, it is the most distant part of the city from the center. Since 2014, when the DNR declared independence from Kyiv, the area has been regularly shelled by Ukrainian security forces.
Artillery of 155 mm caliber is used by NATO countries. The United States has supplied Kyiv with long-range M777 howitzers of 155 mm caliber, Ukrainian troops are actively using them to shell the cities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. Also, the Ukrainian troops were supplied with German PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns using shells of this caliber.
