Croatia deported Vladimir activist on suspicion of possession of weapons; in Russia, he is wanted because of the action near the FSB building

The Croatian Security and Intelligence Agency has called Vladimir activist Ruslan Abasov a «threat to the national security» of the country, who is wanted in Russia in connection with the action «Happy ChKist Day» near the FSB building. Abasov provided copies of the documents of the Croatian security forces to the Dovod publication.

According to the intelligence service, the activist illegally stores edged weapons, as well as content that «corresponds to the legal signs of criminal acts of sexual abuse and exploitation of a child,» and information, » promoting Russian invasion of Ukraine.” According to Abasov, such accusations were brought against him after requesting political asylum in Croatia.

In December 2021, a criminal case was opened against the activist on hooliganism (Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code) and vandalism (Part 1 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code) due to an action against political repression and lawlessness of the security forces, which took place in Moscow. Initially, Abasov and the second participant in the action, Left Bloc activist Lev Skoryakin, were detained — they were sent to a pre-trial detention center. Later, the measure of restraint was softened.

Abasov left Russia for Montenegro last November. His colleague Skoryakin also left the country, but in early June 2023 he was detained in Kyrgyzstan. Since Abasov was also wanted, he decided to travel to an EU country «for security reasons,» he said.

As the activist noted, his path ran through Croatia — he entered there without a visa and requested asylum. As a result, he spent three months in a deportation prison. After his release, Abasov was immediately detained.

“All these accusations were fabricated and are blatant nonsense, but in Croatia, unfortunately, as in Russia, there is such an order that all the courts and the police are under the control of special services. 2.5 months after being re-imprisoned, we managed to find a compromise. As a result, I was deported to Bosnia, after which I returned to Montenegro again,” Abasov added.

In his opinion, the Croatian security forces decided to accuse him of several crimes in order to create grounds for refusing political asylum. Abasov explained: “Croatia has an extremely negative policy towards asylum seekers from Russia right now.”
