RYAZAN, July 27 The Ryazan regional court has left in custody the former vice-governor of the region Igor Grekov, accused of taking bribes, a correspondent reports from the courtroom.
On July 14, the Soviet District Court of Ryazan chose Grekov's preventive measure in the form of detention for two months. According to investigators, in 2018-2021 he received bribes from the heads of commercial organizations for assistance in concluding state contracts for the supply of medical equipment for the needs of medical institutions in the Ryazan region. As part of the investigation of the same case, on July 11, the court granted the investigator’s petition to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention of the ex-deputy minister of health of the region, ex-senator Irina Petina, who is also charged with taking bribes on an especially large scale (part 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code RF).
«The Court of Appeal ruled… the decision of the Soviet District Court… to be left unchanged,» Judge Nikolai Kharlamov announced the decision.
The Ryazoblsud held the consideration of the appeal behind closed doors.
Grekov worked as Vice Governor — First Deputy Prime Minister of the Ryazan Region in 2017-2021. His persona attracted media attention after a journalist from Ryazan asked to be awarded the title of Hero of Russia at a press conference of Russian President Vladimir Putin in December 2020, claiming that he allegedly saved seven people during ammunition explosions in the Skopinsky district. This information has not been confirmed.
Grekov left the post of vice-governor in January 2021 of his own free will. Nikolai Lyubimov, who was then the governor of the Ryazan region, stated that Grekov left on his own and was not fired under any defamatory article. Later, the prosecutor's office of the region reported that a submission was made to the governor on the fact that the Grekovs, when appointed to a position, provided false information about the absence of an extinguished criminal record.
