MOSCOW, July 25 The intensity of contacts with UNESCO decreased after the reunification of Crimea with Russia, but it is hoped that Russian monuments will be included in the organization's list of World Heritage Sites in the future. This was stated by the chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council on Science, Education and Culture Lilia Gumerova at a press conference in the MIA «Russia Today».

“A certain time will pass, and we will be able to add our objects to the UNESCO World Heritage List, continue our cultural contacts, educational projects. But unfortunately, it is not necessary to say that now this cooperation is on a high note,» she said.
According to the senator, the attitude of a number of international organizations towards Russia has changed after 2014.< br />«
"When I was still working in the Republic of Bashkortostan, we prepared a dossier to (include in the UNESCO World Heritage List — Ed.) a unique natural monument Shulgan-Tash cave, where rock art is 18, and according to some estimates 20 thousand years. But in 2014, experts began to work with us in a radically different way,» Gumerova said.
Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture added that, nevertheless, a number of projects remain . As an example, she cited the World Folklore Festival, which was held in Bashkortostan in 2021.
«The folklore festival is run by an organization that is part of UNESCO. Its head came and said that this was the best folklore festival — how many countries came, how they were met in each municipality of the Republic of Bashkortostan,» the senator recalled.
At the same time, Gumerova noted that the headquarters an apartment in Paris began to have a more negative attitude towards contacts with Russia.

Earlier it became known that that the United States decided to return to UNESCO. The country did so almost six years after it left the organization during the presidency of Donald Trump.
UNESCO is the educational, scientific and cultural specialized agency of the United Nations. At the same time, membership in the UN does not mean that the state becomes a full member of UNESCO.
The organization's World Heritage List includes 31 objects from Russia, including the Moscow Kremlin, the monuments of Veliky Novgorod, the citadel of Derbent, Tauric Chersonesos and others.
