MOSCOW, July 28 Russia's proposal to create a national module for the BRICS countries as part of the future Russian orbital station «resonated» with partners , Yury Borisov, director general of Roskosmos, said in an interview.
Earlier, Borisov suggested that BRICS partners create a separate specialized module for the Russian Orbital Station (ROS), where the countries of the association could conduct their scientific research.
«On my last visit to South Africa, where the heads of space agencies met, we voiced this proposal, and it found a response there,» Borisov said at the Russia-Africa summit.
Earlier, the head of Roskosmos said that Russia offers African countries to participate in the ROS project and create national modules for this station. Later, he clarified that Russia is open to cooperation within the framework of the creation of a new station not only with African countries.
Now the Rocket and Space Corporation (RKK) Energia is conducting a preliminary design of the new station, it should be completed in 2023. It is assumed that the first module of the new station will be launched in 2027, and astronauts will be able to go to it in 2028. Completion of construction is expected in 2032.
ROS should appear by the time the decommissioning of the International Space Station (scheduled for 2028-2030) begins, in which, in addition to Russia, the United States, the European Space Agency, Canada and Japan are participating.
