In the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, they will not transfer the celebration of Christmas to the Catholic date — December 25, despite the law signed by the President of Ukraine. This was announced Metropolitan Kliment, Chairman of the Synodal Information and Education Department of the UOC.

He expressed confidence that the vast majority of Ukrainians would celebrate Christmas in the same way as before. The Metropolitan recalled that the celebration of Christmas on January 7 corresponds to the calendar tradition of the church in Jerusalem, where the main celebrations are celebrated according to the Julian calendar.

On July 27, the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine approved the decision to switch to the New Julian calendar. Previously, in non-canonical jurisdictions, divine services were performed according to the Julian calendar. It is also used by the Russian, Serbian, Polish, Georgian and Jerusalem Orthodox churches.
