MOSCOW, July 29 Monument «Rodina- mother» in Kiev will be renamed «Ukraine-mother», said Yuriy Savchuk, general director of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II.

"We had a meeting of the academic council of our museum, and important decisions were made at it. One of them is the renaming of the monument «Motherland» to the Mother Ukraine monument,” he said in an interview with Ukrainian Radio.
Savchuk expressed hope that the Ministry of Culture would approve the decision of the Academic Council on the eve of Ukraine's Independence Day. This event is celebrated in the country on August 24.
As the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko reported in July last year, the population spoke in favor of abandoning the coat of arms of the USSR on the shield of the «Motherland». According to the results of an electronic poll conducted in the application «Diya» («Action»), this decision was supported by 85 percent of those who voted.
The dismantling of monuments related to Soviet history, as well as the renaming of streets and cities, began in Ukraine in 2015. Then the Kyiv authorities adopted a law on «decommunization». Recently, the Ukrainian government has begun to fight not only with Soviet history, but with everything connected with Russia.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has previously stated that the authorities in Kiev have been pursuing a policy of aggressive de-Russification and forced assimilation.
