MOSCOW, July 31 The second order of Gagarin in history was received by Anton Shkaplerov, who recently left the Russian cosmonaut corps, the corresponding decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
< br />It is specified that now Shkaplerov holds the position of deputy head of the department of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center (TsPK).
The Order of Gagarin was approved at the suggestion of Roscosmos in 2023. The award is given for merit in the field of space. The first order of Gagarin was received by the first woman cosmonaut of the planet (she flew in 1963), State Duma deputy Valentina Tereshkova.
Shkaplerov was enrolled in the cosmonaut corps on May 29, 2003, and from 2011 to 2022 he performed four space flights with a total duration of more than 700 days. He made three spacewalks and spent 21 hours and 38 minutes. In 2013, Shkaplerov was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation with the Gold Star medal and the Pilot-Cosmonaut of the Russian Federation badge of honor. He took part in the filming of the feature film «The Challenge» on the ISS.
