KHABAROVSK, July 31 The situation with forest fires in the Khabarovsk Territory is stabilizing, the past rains have helped to improve the situation, the regional government reports.
According to the Ministry of Forestry and Timber Processing of the region, the area of forest fires in the Khabarovsk Territory is almost 274,000 hectares. On Saturday morning, it reached more than 335 thousand. As of Monday, 92 fires have been registered. Their cause is dry thunderstorms. The outbreaks occur in remote mountainous areas, where there are no roads and around the taiga. There is no threat to settlements and economic facilities from fire. Over the weekend, short-term showers with thunder and lightning passed through the region.
«The past rains in the north of the region contributed to the improvement of the forest fire situation and reduced the level of fire danger in the forests. Previously, firefighters extinguished fires in hot weather, lack of precipitation, gusty winds and increased thunderstorm activity, which led to the emergence of new thermal points,» the government of the region reports.
According to Konstantin Kuznetsov, deputy minister — head of the region's forest conservation department, fires are active in the Ayano-Maisky, Okhotsk and Tuguro-Chumikansky regions. Additionally, specialists from the federal reserve from the Amur Region were involved in extinguishing. In addition, employees of the Primorsk and Zabaikalsky air bases, as well as the PDPS of the Omsk aviation department of the Federal Reserve of the FBU «Avialesookhrana» help to fight against the elements. A special fire regime continues to operate on the territory of all municipal districts of the region. The ban on visiting forests due to fires has been extended in the region from July 20 to August 9, the regional government's civil protection committee previously reported (originally valid from June 29 to July 19). In the Khabarovsk Territory and Yakutia, an interregional emergency regime was introduced from July 10 due to fires.
According to the Ministry of Forestry of the region, since the beginning of the fire season, 634 fires have occurred on the territory of the region on a total area of more than 716.6 thousand hectares.
