Media: Rebels in Niger cut off supplies of uranium and gold to France

MOSCOW, 31 Jul. The military in Niger, who ousted President Mohammed Bazum, announced the cessation of supplies of gold and uranium to France, Mehr News writes.
«

«We have uranium, diamonds, gold, oil, and do we live like slaves? We don't need the French to keep us safe,» said one of the rebels.

The African country has large reserves of uranium, on which France is heavily dependent. Niamey provides 15-17 percent of the supply of this raw material for French nuclear power plants.

Last Wednesday, the military in Niger staged a mutiny, appeared on national television and announced the removal of President Mohamed Bazum, the closure of borders and the imposition of a curfew. Before that, the fighters of the presidential guard blocked the palace of the head of state in the capital Niamey.

Bazuma is still being held at the residence. The chairman of the African Union Commission, Musa Faki Mahamat, said that the head of the Niger is all right, he feels good.
Last Friday, the commander of the presidential guard, General Tchiani, appeared on state TV as head of the National Council for the Defense of the Fatherland, formed by the coup participants.< br>
