MOSCOW, Aug 1 Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, he thanked the upper house of parliament for its work in the spring session, noting that senators pay a lot of attention to social issues.

In general, of course, the work was quite tense, effective, decisions were made in a timely manner,» Putin said during a meeting with Matvienko on Tuesday.
Putin also noted the importance of the work «in the regional dimension.» According to the president, it is no less important than the tasks related to rule-making.
«Direct connection with the regions, understanding what is happening» on the ground, at the regional level, were resolved even more efficiently and in a timely manner — this is an extremely important, simply very important thing. International contacts are also important. I can say the same about the initiatives of the Federation Council, which are born just «from below», in connection with your work in regions. I hope that after a short vacation, work in such a serious, intense manner will be continued,» the President stressed.
