According to the publication, the project is still in its infancy and that a final decision has not yet been made. Automotive News writes that «a Corolla-based pickup truck remains a possibility, but one is under development.» Don't expect it until 2027, though.
Because of these rumors, an independent artist has decided to turn the compact crossover into this hypothetical pickup.
The compact truck will sit below the Hilux and will allow Toyota to compete with Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz. Like these trucks, the corolla with load bed will have a unibody construction and not more rigid frame. It is expected to be built in Mississippi alongside the regular Corolla, while the Corolla Cross is produced in Alabama at a new factory owned by Mazda.
Be aware that ;— not the only cheaper and smaller pickup truck in Toyota's plans. Late last year, the Japanese automotive giant revealed the IMV 0 as a prototype light commercial vehicle that will go on sale around 2024. The single-cab truck had design cues from the Compact Cruiser EV concept.
