MOSCOW, Aug. 4 A Russian environmental operator will start using remote monitoring of landfills using drones and drone ports, the company said.
“Remote monitoring of landfills will become possible thanks to the use of a droneport. This is a tool that is already being used on an ongoing basis for the operational monitoring of the construction and operation of facilities. In our industry, the technology has already been tested at a landfill in the Nizhny Novgorod region for 3 days. In 2023, we plan to increase the testing period to five months,» Deputy Director General for Digitalization of the REO Alexei Burov told reporters.
According to him, in 2024 the company plans to apply the experience of the Nizhny Novgorod region in other regions of Russia, equipping some of the landfills with domestic drone ports and drones as part of the national project for the development of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). A region wishing to introduce such a technology must fill out an application on the REO website.
«After testing the remote monitoring technology using a droneport at existing landfills, the possibilities for expanding their application in the industry as a whole will become clear. After all, it is important not only to bring the existing MSW management facilities in line with the requirements of the law, but also to ensure compliance with all norms during the construction of new facilities,” added Alexei Makrushin, Deputy General Director of the REO for Legal Affairs and Analytical Support for Work with the Federal Scheme.
The «garbage» reform began in Russia on January 1, 2019. The key task of the REO, created in the same year, is to supervise the reform and form an integrated system for handling municipal solid waste in Russia. url=»https://ria.ru/20230615/soglashenie-1878200025.html» data-title=»Chukotka and REO agreed to create a waste management system»>
