A graduate of St Petersburg University, who spoke in support of Elena Milashina, said that she did not enter the magistracy, as her points were underestimated

Elizaveta Antonova, a graduate of the Faculty of Journalism at St Petersburg University, who on the day of her graduation held a rally in support of the battered Novaya Gazeta correspondent Elena Milashina, did not enter the magistracy due to low scores. The girl told Paper about this.

Antonova did not claim that the decision of the selection committee was connected precisely with the picket with a poster depicting Milashina and saying “The Face of Russian Journalism”.

As the graduate noted, along with the documents for the master's program «Analytical Journalism», she submitted the recommendation of the dean of the faculty of journalism Anatoly Puyu and a motivation letter. The admissions committee did not take into account the letter of recommendation, considering it fake, although other applicants accepted the same papers.

In addition, the commission did not score the sections in the motivation letter devoted to justifying the choice of the study program, work experience and other topics. According to Antonova, she received points only for those criteria that cannot be assessed subjectively — the presence of a diploma, a certificate of knowledge of a foreign language and the absence of errors in writing.

As a result, the girl was given 29 points, when the minimum threshold for admission is 30 points. She was also not given grades for completing additional educational courses, since they are awarded if she has 65 points in other criteria.

The admissions committee refused to review the points given and did not explain the reason for the low marks. “Given that students are expelled for participating in anti-war actions and simply for a pacifist position, then, of course, suspicions arise,” Antonova added.

Journalist Elena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov were severely beaten in Grozny by masked men 4 July. Milashina was diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury, fractures of the bones of the hands and bruises. Nemov was diagnosed with multiple hematomas and a stab wound.
