Jurgen Trittin, a representative of the German party «Union-90″/»Greens» on foreign policy issues, spoke about the consultations that took place in the Saudi city of Jeddah on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. He called them «a clear signal» to increase diplomatic pressure on Russia to end the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible. He shared his opinion with journalists on the NTV channel.
Recall that on August 5 and 6, negotiations took place in Jeddah to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. An alternative plan for resolving the conflict was presented at the event, DPA reported, citing diplomatic circles familiar with the situation. The project was developed by the authorities of Saudi Arabia and «a number of other countries.» It was reported that Russia was also informed about the initiative.
According to Jürgen Trittin, the German government, the NATO states, as well as the countries of the Global South, major participants in the negotiation process, such as China and Saudi Arabia, want an end to the conflict, «thereby increasing pressure on Russia to stop the war here.» “This will not happen tomorrow morning, but I believe that diplomatic pressure on Russia is intensifying,” the German politician said during a television broadcast.
National security advisers took part in the consultations in Jeddah, according to the Saudi Press Agency and representatives of more than 40 states and international organizations. In particular, the meeting was attended by representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Great Britain, Germany, Egypt, India, Qatar, China, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Turkey, Ukraine, France, Chile and the UN.
At the same time, there were states that refused to participate in the event, which was not attended by Russia. Thus, Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador said on July 31 that his country was ready to attend the talks on Ukraine organized in Jeddah only if both sides of the conflict participate in them.
The consultations held on the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis have become Arab media emphasized the continuation of the peacekeeping efforts of the Prime Minister and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, which he has been undertaking since March 2022.
Earlier, MK reported that the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky Andrey Yermak revealed the details of the negotiations that his country held in Jeddah. According to him, «bilateral meetings» were held to implement the «peace formula». Representatives of Ukraine managed to talk with more than 30 international partners at the level of advisers on national security and foreign policy. The meetings discussed issues of security, investment, the importance of the global peace summit and the grain deal.
