MOSCOW, Aug 8 Residents of new regions of Russia , where elections will be held on September 10 to form the legislative branch, they are assessed as an element of stability and integration into the Russian Federation, said Ella Pamfilova, head of the Russian Central Election Commission.
«The elections that will now be held to form the legislative power in these (new) regions based on the opinion of the people, the formation of municipal power, … the executive power. For them (residents of the new regions of Russia — ed.) this is an element of stability, closer integration into Russia. It was on the basis of their opinions and positions that we made decisions, after consulting with all our necessary law enforcement agencies, how realistic and safe we can ensure this,» Pamfilova told reporters.
According to the head of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, the decision to hold elections in new regions was made by the residents of these subjects themselves. The Central Election Commission of Russia helps the new territories to get as close as possible to the standards of the electoral process generally accepted in the Russian Federation.
«They expressed their will at a referendum at the time, I can't say anything here, because we did not participate in this. They became part of Russia on the basis of a referendum. Of course, we always help these new constituent entities of the Russian Federation to bring all the requirements, all our standards for the electoral process as close as possible, as in other constituent entities of the Russian Federation, so that this is also ensured there even now,» she noted.
Elections in Russia will be held on a single voting day on September 10, 2023. Elections of senior officials in 20 constituent entities of the Russian Federation and additional elections of State Duma deputies for four vacant seats in single-mandate constituencies are planned in the EDG. Elections are scheduled in the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
