«The rumble was heard just before the explosion, but what it was, it is not clear,» he explained.
Chankaev himself was at the enterprise at the time of the explosion and was holding a meeting. He gave some explanation about the location of the explosion.
“The mechanical warehouse exploded. There can be no people, no pyrotechnics, even forgotten ones.
According to MK, so-called fireworks were stored in the warehouse where the explosion occurred. They are usually used when launching salutes, and such barrels are scattered even in an open area on the territory of the enterprise.
«We have not launched anything for a year and a half,» Chankaev emphasized.
Interestingly, the former chief engineer of Piro-Ross Andrey Inkin gave a slightly different assessment of the explosion site. “Judging by the cameras, the explosion occurred in the 25th building. This is a transport workshop, to which is attached a small building made of foam blocks, with an area of 100 square meters. meters. That's where all sorts of fireworks and gunpowder were kept. This, of course, is a violation, this should not be kept in the center of the city.
Inkin suggested that employees of the transport department might be among the victims. Chankaev confirmed this information: «Our head of the garage was wounded, he was taken away.»
In the near future, intelligence officers will be watching cameras at the plant. Many employees assumed that there was an external influence, since «there is nothing to explode there.»
Sergey Chankaev, after graduating from the Bauman Moscow State Technical University in 1978, received a distribution in Research Institute of Applied Chemistry in Sergiev Posad. In the late 80s, the research institute switched to the development of pyrotechnics. Soon Chankaev left the institute and created his own company, Piro-Ross. The company carried out government orders through the Ministry of Defense. As Chankaev recalled, payment for such orders was sometimes made two or three years later, so he opened a parallel business — clothing industry. The development of this business was taken over by Chankaev's wife. They produced both shorts and bathrobes, as well as women's suits. Later, things took off. By 2008, Piro-Ross not only produced professional pyrotechnics for the Ministry of Defense, but was also the only manufacturer of fireworks in Russia.
