According to the industry association SMMT, new car registrations in the UK increased by 28% to 143 921 in July. The increase came as supply chain challenges eased, allowing automakers to ramp up production and meet pending orders.
Battery-electric vehicles saw an 88 percentage growth, accounting for 16 percentage of all new registrations month.
SMMT forecasts total UK registrations to reach 1.85 million this year, with all-electric vehicles expected to capture 17.8% market share or 330,000 units.
SMMT slightly lowered its forecast for 2024 by 0.7 percent to 1.95 million units. BEV's market share is expected to be 22.6% next year, with sales reaching 440,000 units.
