The Sovetsky District Court of the Kaliningrad Region did not release the 64-year-old convict in the case of «fakes» about the war Igor Baryshnikov at his mother's funeral. Lawyer Maria Bontsler told Novy Kaliningrad about this.
A resident of Sovetsk, sentenced to 7.5 years in a penal colony, was sentenced in June because of his posts about Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Then he was taken into custody. The court also decided to transfer the 96-year-old mother of Baryshnikov Evgenia to the guardianship authorities, since she had no other relatives left. At the same time, the woman was not recognized as incompetent.
In early August, Baryshnikov's mother died. He asked to be released for burial under escort, but the sentenced judge Olga Balandina refused. The regional court agreed with her decision.
Because of health problems, Baryshnikov is now in the medical unit at the pre-trial detention center. After the initiation of criminal cases, his chronic illness worsened. He was diagnosed with a tumor with suspected prostate cancer, which is why he lives with a tube in his stomach — a cystoma — and needs an operation. At the trial, Baryshnikov's attending physician said that he could die in the colony.
According to Bonzler, they promised to take Baryshnikov to the regional hospital by the end of August for an examination, after which the question would be decided whether he could be in prison.
