MIIGAiK told why the Luna-25 landing will be filmed

MOSCOW, Aug 10The automatic interplanetary station «Luna-25» will film the process of its landing on a natural satellite of the Earth, so that Russian scientists can then build a relief model of the landing area and study the structure of the outer layer of the Moon's surface based on the movement of regolith and dust, the press service of the Moscow State University of Geodesy reported. and cartography (MIIGAiK).
It was previously reported that the first Russian apparatus in 47 years will go to the Moon on August 11 at 2.11 Moscow time on a Soyuz-2.1b rocket from the Vostochny cosmodrome. The landing of Luna-25 is expected at the beginning of the 20th of August.

«In the course of the Luna-25 mission, it is planned to film the entire landing process with observation cameras, which allow us to build a relief model of the landing site. We also hope to receive footage at the time of the Luna-25 landing, which will show how the lunar regolith and dust behave landing,» the statement said.

The processed images will allow scientists, geophysicists and geologists to study in detail the properties of regolith, soil strength and other key characteristics of the structure of the Moon. In addition, a successful landing will make it possible to test ballistic calculations in practice, to compare the pre-calculation of illumination with real conditions, MIIGAiK is sure. These data will make it possible to work out a more accurate landing mechanism for future stations and to better consider their experimental load.
Speaking about the Luna-26 orbital station (launch is scheduled for 2027), the university noted that the high-resolution images (5-7 meters) of the polar regions that it will take can become the basis for the selection and analysis of landing sites for subsequent » Lun», and will also be used for planetary navigation in polar latitudes. The landing station «Luna-27» with the help of «predecessor experience» will have to make a precision landing and get the maximum scientific result.
In MIIGAiK, the processing of optical data from such remote sensing is handled by the Integrated Laboratory for the Study of Extraterrestrial Territories (CLIVT). Using this data, scientists receive relief models and detailed maps of the surface of celestial bodies, including for use by other specialists.
