MOSCOW, 8 Aug. U.S. generals no longer think about Ukraine, but note with dismay the colossal capabilities of the Russian nuclear submarine fleet capable of destroying the United States, ex-CIA agent Larry Johnson said in an interview with Redacted.
«Note that they have stopped talking about Russia's «defeat» from Ukraine. <…> What they really think about now is powerful Russian nuclear submarines. There are only two countries in the world with such submarines — Russia and the United States, «the expert noted.
At the same time, Johnson recalled that Moscow already surpasses Washington in this industry, as it has an unmanned submarine fleet (Poseidon vehicles. — Approx. ed.), capable of carrying nuclear weapons and striking at the United States.
«America has no way prevent or counter such a threat,» the former CIA analyst concluded.
Russian President Vladimir Putin first announced the design of the Poseidon torpedo in a 2018 State of the Union address. According to him, such underwater unmanned vehicles will be able to hit a variety of targets, including aircraft carrier groups, coastal fortifications and infrastructure. «Poseidons» will be installed on multi-purpose nuclear submarines of the «Belgorod» and «Khabarovsk» classes, the characteristics of which are classified.
Moscow has repeatedly pointed out the absence of aggressive intentions towards other states. At the same time, as noted in the Kremlin, the West is aimed at confrontation and expansion by including new countries in the North Atlantic Alliance and destabilizing borders.
