Expert Knutov told what tasks the Russian night attack solved
The answer for the attempts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to attack the Crimean bridge was not long in coming. Powerful missile strikes on Odessa and Zaporozhye were carried out by Russia on the night of August 14. Some military experts linked the attacks on the port city with an attempt by British specialists to put the Patriot complex on combat duty here, as well as with a hunt for SBU employees, whose center is also located in Odessa.
Meanwhile, military expert Yuri Knutov told what tasks could be solved by our strikes — among them the suppression of enemy air defense systems and the destruction of enemy personnel.
The «response» for the Crimean bridge, which was again at the epicenter of the enemy's attention over the weekend, flew to Ukrainian cities on Monday night. The Russian Aerospace Forces delivered combined strikes on the village of Kryzhanovka, on the area of the port «Oil Harbor», as well as on the Bugaevka area in Odessa. Footage of the fires soon appeared in open sources.
Specialists do not exclude that the Geraniums provoked the strongest detonation after hitting ammunition depots. In addition, it was reported that two more strikes hit the center of Odessa — the target could be the SBU building, which is located in the city center. According to military analysts, during the night attacks on Odessa, Budanov and Zaluzhny could have been in the city — at least both were planning a trip to the port city.
However, as the channel “Image of the Future” writes, “this is not the reason for the strikes.” The day before, British specialists tried to connect the Patriot air defense system to power here. The complex was supposed to be put on combat duty as early as Monday-Tuesday.
Military expert, director of the air defense museum Yuri Knutov, in an interview with MK, confirmed that Geraniums in the ports of Odessa could have many targets — from the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the NATO air defense system:
— If we are talking about Odessa, then port facilities and warehouses are primarily important here, because single ships still reach Ukraine. Therefore, in my opinion, it was a fairly serious attack, designed to weaken the capabilities of Ukraine, which receives weapons by sea. In addition, we could again attack the air defense system of Ukraine, which the Kiev regime is trying to deploy in this area. It is also impossible to exclude objects where Ukrainian military or mercenaries are stationed as targets.
By the way, according to military correspondent Volodymyr Romanov, the Geraniums flew to the dormitory, which was used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a temporary deployment point.
“And what about upon arrival at the dormitory, which is used as a PVD by the Ukrainian Armed Forces? Show? Or are you eliminating the signs of the presence of the Armed Forces of Ukraine yet?” — intrigued the military commander.
The Ukrainian air defense, the means of which are installed in the residential areas of the city, again worked to destroy the Odessa buildings. A video appeared on the Web, which clearly shows how an air defense missile deviated from the course and fell on the Fozzy hypermarket. Soon, residents of the Odessa region of Moldavanka began to find the stuffing from air defense missiles — characteristic metal «cubes».
— Ukraine, of course, focuses only on the fact that the shopping center was destroyed, they say, the evil Russians strike at the shopping centers. However, there is a video that clearly shows how an anti-aircraft missile takes off. Some kind of malfunction occurs with it, and it falls directly into the area where this shopping center is located. We can say with confidence that this is the fault of the Ukrainian air defense, — says Knutov.
According to the military expert, the missile was supposed to explode or self-destruct if it missed.
— Perhaps there was some kind of operation of the warhead, directly on some target, but the remains of the engine, the remains of the rocket with fuel fell on the shopping center. Such a possibility also exists, — said the expert.
As for the attacks on Zaporozhye, this time the Russian Aerospace Forces could continue to “finish off” the Motor Sich enterprise:
— In At one time, engines for helicopters, airplanes, and military equipment were produced there. But part of the enterprise was previously destroyed. I do not rule out that something was restored there. Therefore, strikes could be carried out on the remaining workshops, production sites, warehouses.
As far as I know, the Ukrainians tried to assemble components for Grom 2 missiles there. The plant with missiles is, of course, an important target, although the same Storm Shadow missiles, as well as Su-24 bombers, are the highest priority target for us today.
