ULAN-UDE, August 20A state of emergency of a republican scale was introduced in Buryatia due to the destruction of the dam, the overflow of the Kholodnaya River and the erosion of the railway track in the Severo-Baikal region, the head of the republic, Alexei Tsydenov, said on his Telegram channel.
The day before, in the Severo-Baikalsky district of Buryatia, due to the partial destruction of the dam, the railway track was washed away, the movement of trains was stopped. Earlier, the head of the republic called the approximate date for the completion of emergency recovery work — August 26.
“A decision was made to introduce an emergency regime in the republic in connection with the destruction of the dam, the overflow of the Kholodnaya River and the erosion of the BAM. The operational headquarters has been formed, we are coordinating measures to eliminate the consequences of the emergency,” Tsydenov wrote.
It is noted that the authorities have decided on emergency measures.
“Now we are attracting road and construction equipment operating at enterprises nearby, primarily dump trucks, excavators. The Eastern Railway is also taking all measures to eliminate the consequences,” the head of the republic added.
According to him, the water level is declining, and the road will soon be restored, along which it is planned to transport passengers traveling along the BAM.
«There is no threat to the residents. Food and heating stations for people have been deployed in the area. We deliver a woman with an exacerbation of appendicitis in a village cut off by water to the hospital by water on a boat,» Tsydenov wrote.
