"Roskosmos" officially recognized the Luna-25 mission unsuccessful. The station moved to an off-design orbit, collided with the surface of the Moon and ceased to exist.
As noted in the statement of the state corporation, on Saturday, August 19, an impulse was issued to transfer the station to a pre-landing elliptical orbit, however, an abnormal situation occurred on the device and about 14:57 communication with "Luna-25" was interrupted.
Specialists tried for two days to find the device and restore contact with it, but these attempts were unsuccessful. Preliminary analysis showed that the station switched to an off-design orbit and collided with the surface of the Moon, as a result of which it ceased to exist.
A special interdepartmental commission will investigate the causes of the loss of the apparatus.
