
St. Petersburg, 17 Aug. In the square in St. Petersburg, named after the scientist Yuri Knorozov, who deciphered the Mayan script, it is planned to install thematic art objects, the press service of the administration of the Krasnogvardeisky district of the city reports.

» The square on Granitnaya Street in the Krasnogvardeisky District was named after Yuri Knorozov, a historian, ethnographer and author of the decipherment of the Mayan script. Now the green zone is waiting for improvement. Thematic art objects inspired by the works of the scientist will be installed in the public garden of Yuri Knorozov: "The Mayan Sun" and «Parade of the Planets», the message says.
Earlier it was reported that in 2022 the Toponymic Commission of St. Petersburg recommended that the square at the beginning of Granitnaya Street be named after Knorozov. The scientist lived in house number 10.
It is noted that it is planned to preserve the green zone here, install benches and recreation areas, and it is also possible to diversify the square with architectural forms. The concept of the new space will be discussed with residents.
The work on the improvement of the square is planned for 2024-2025 as part of the «Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment» program.
