MOSCOW, August 19 Russia will not resume tax relations with hostile countries until they restore its rights. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Finance.
This is how the Treasury reacted to the request of the UK authorities to cancel the suspension of certain articles of the 1994 Double Taxation Convention.
«Under the current conditions, Russia could not continue to apply the agreements unilaterally,» the agency explained.
They noted that since last year, Western countries have been unilaterally imposing economic sanctions against Russia. Thus, in February, the European Union included Moscow in the list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions.
In addition, some hostile states do not comply with certain provisions of tax treaties. This, in particular, is about the suspension of the exchange of tax information with Russia, the ministry said.
The Ministry of Finance recalled that the Vienna Convention on the Law of International Treaties allows for their suspension if the rights of one of the parties have been violated.
On August 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the suspension of certain clauses of tax agreements with unfriendly countries.
The document is suspended main points of agreements with 38 countries: USA, Poland, South Korea, Bulgaria, Sweden, Luxembourg, Romania, Great Britain, Hungary, Ireland, Slovakia, Albania, Belgium, Slovenia, Croatia, Canada, Montenegro, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, Italy, Finland, Germany, France, Macedonia, Cyprus, Spain, Lithuania, Iceland, Austria, Portugal, Greece, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Malta and Japan.
