Friends told about Muscovites missing in the Neglinka sewer: an inexplicable choice

Dmitry Markushkin suffered from a fear of closed spaces

Friends of Dmitry Markushkin, a Muscovite who disappeared and, apparently, died during a digging excursion in the Neglinka underground sewer, are surprised that he decided on such an adventure — a walk through the Moscow dungeons, and even on a rainy day. Everyone who knew him says that Dmitry was a very careful person.

As it became known to MK, Dmitry worked for a long time in the PR service of the LANIT group of companies, a concern that provides a wide range of IT services. He graduated from Moscow State Technical University. Bauman, at one time served in the power structure, but rather quickly switched to scientific journalism. Markushkin headed the marketing service at the Institute of Precision Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, then worked at NVision Group, and in recent years he worked at LANIT, where he held the high post of Deputy Marketing Director.

“Dima was always cautious, even timid. Extreme is not about him, ”said one of Markushkin’s friends. Dmitry recently told a friend that during a trip to Kamchatka, where he was kayaking with his 15-year-old daughter, he experienced a real panic. And only because he accidentally ended up locked in a room in a hotel house: the handle was stuck. Perhaps the intention to go on an excursion to the dungeons was precisely the man's attempt to get rid of his fears. In addition, he loved life very much and did not want to take risks once again.

In recent years, Markushkin lived separately from his family. Failures in his personal life pushed him to religious topics: Dmitry was very religious. He tried to convert his 15-year-old daughter to the bosom of the church, although she was not particularly enthusiastic about her father's initiatives. The girl studied at a college at the Higher School of Economics and also intended to connect her life with IT technologies.

An excursion to the underground collector of the Neglinnaya River was planned long ago. Dmitry himself, as well as his nephew Gleb, the son of his sister, dealt with organizational issues. This year, a 17-year-old teenager entered a technical school — he dreamed of becoming a river captain. On the Internet, they found a suitable site with excursions, paid for the event in advance. Gleb took his girlfriend Vika for a walk, and Dmitry went with his daughter.

“Dmitry would definitely check everything. He could not trust a non-professional,” emphasizes his friend. However, on sites advertising trips through underground sewers, everything looks so convincing that even a cautious person will believe in the safety of tours. In addition, it is emphasized that excursions are not carried out in the rain. Why on Sunday, when up to 40% of precipitation fell in some areas of Moscow, the trip nevertheless took place — remains a mystery.

At the moment, three bodies of the excursion participants are known to have been found. The total number of victims of the tragedy is still unknown.
