Left for boxing? Fedor Emelianenko is no longer the head of the MMA Union of Russia

MOSCOW, Aug 21, Andrey Vasilchin. Despite the end of his professional career, the legend of mixed martial arts Fedor Emelianenko continues to churn out high-profile newsbreaks. In mid-August, «The Last Emperor» surprised fans with a statement about their intention to fight under the rules of boxing. It seemed that the 46-year-old athlete was seriously tired of fighting troubles. However, no, the strength to enter the ring remained. Also with Mike Tyson himself, who is 11 years older than the Russian.
Emelianenko Sr. spoke about this and not only in an interview with journalist Ariel Helwani.

Already last weekend, it became known about big changes in Emelianenko's career outside the cage. Fedor Vladimirovich resigned from the post of president of the MMA Union of Russia, said a source familiar with the situation. Acting head of the organization until the early elections (scheduled for the end of 2023) will be First Vice President Andrey Terentyev.

"Fyodor Emelianenko applied and resigned as president, but remained in the MMA Union of Russia and will continue to work. He will now either be an honorary president or head the supervisory board of our organization. There are no conflict situations. He now has no time to do daily routine work. For now, I will be acting president of the MMA Union. We will jointly resolve all everyday issues,» Terentyev said in a conversation with an agency correspondent. br>
Emelianenko took over the organization in June last year. Initially, he did not want to participate in the elections, but during the meeting of the Union an amendment was made to the charter, according to which a presidential candidate can be nominated during the conference.

Terentyev withdrew his candidacy and gave way to Emelianenko. The MMA legend beat the ex-head of the organization Radmir Gabdullin in the elections, gaining an overwhelming majority of votes.

It is difficult to say for what reason Emelianenko decided to leave. Either the desire to try boxing had an effect, or the scandal that erupted in the world of domestic sports in early summer.
Then the mayor of Belogorsk (Amur region) Stanislav Melyukov said that during the open Cup «Sport Club Rodina», organized by the regional branch of the relevant federation, a tragedy occurred. A 16-year-old competitor died. According to the speaker, all the necessary legal procedures were followed.

At the same time, Melyukov mentioned «one but». According to the regulations of the tournament, all athletes aged 16-17 years old must compete in boxing helmets of an open type.
“For unclear reasons, the chief judge of the competition (he is also the president of the regional organization) decided to refuse them,” said Melyukov.
After the death of the young man, the MMA Union of Russia conducted an internal investigation, and the Ministry of Sports suspended the organization's current accreditation for three months.
