MOSCOW, Aug 21 Rice harvesting in the Russian Federation is planned to start in the first or second ten days of September, the yield forecast is favorable — provided stable agrometeorological situation in the coming period, according to the materials of the NP «Southern Rice Union» (available).
The review of the culture of agriculture in the rice irrigation system of the Krasnodar Territory was held from August 8 to 11 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Krasnodar Territory, subordinate institutions and the association itself also participated in it. The working group visited 27 rice-growing enterprises.
“The forecast for rice yields, while maintaining a stable agrometeorological situation during the period of grain loading and harvesting, is favorable. The start of harvesting this year is planned for the first or second ten days of September,” the materials say.
The gross harvest of rice in the Russian Federation in 2022 immediately decreased by 14.2%, to 923.1 thousand tons — a negative contribution was made by an accident at the Fedorovsky hydroelectric complex, which provided moisture to most of the rice fields of the Krasnodar Territory. The yield of rice in the Russian Federation in 2022 amounted to 54.4 centners per hectare (minus 5.9% compared to last year), including in the Krasnodar Territory — 63.5 centners per hectare (minus 1.3%).
In 2023, the area under rice in the Krasnodar Territory amounted to 110.14 thousand hectares, the sowing campaign was carried out from April 18 to June 5 — that is, at the optimal time in most farms. The spread of pests was insignificant. The water supply of rice crops at the time of the review was sufficient, the materials say; At the same time, due to the evolving hydrological situation, the water supply is planned to be cut off from September 15.
As a result of the review of the culture of agriculture in the rice irrigation system of the Krasnodar Territory, it was noted that in recent years, rice producers are faced with a complex of adverse factors, such as lack of water resources, high infestation of crops with annual cereals — barnyard grass, weed-field red-grain forms of rice — and sedge weeds . But at the same time, the defeat by blast (a fungal disease of rice) was not permanent: in 2023, its development did not exceed the threshold of economic harmfulness.
General Director of the analytical center «Prozerno» Vladimir Petrichenko previously estimated the gross rice harvest in Russia in 2023 at the level of 1.06 million tons, linking the larger result (14.8% by 2022) with the growth of crops and weather conditions.< br />
