SEATTLE Aug 21 US poses serious obstacles for the full participation of Russia in the work of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) within the framework of the chairmanship in the organization, said Ambassador-at-Large, senior person in APEC from the Russian Federation Marat Berdyev.
«The current situation creates serious obstacles for our full participation in the activities APEC is under the American chairmanship and cannot but affect the effectiveness and credibility of the US watch,» he said.
According to the Russian diplomat, Washington continues to «lose face» as a responsible participant in international communication and a negotiable player.
«Of course, we had no great illusions about Washington's ability to keep its word, but we proceeded from the fact that this (the chairmanship of APEC — ed.) would have a sobering disciplinary effect, deter the American authorities from direct violations of the APEC rules,» — he stressed.
Berdyev added that Russia agreed to the US chairmanship of APEC, paying special attention to Washington's reaffirmation of its readiness to ensure non-discriminatory access for all delegations to events without double standards and arbitrariness.
