MOSCOW, August 21 Anna Ryndina, Doctor of Art History, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, died on Sunday at the age of 86, the press service of the Russian Academy of Arts reported.

Ryndina devoted her entire professional life to art criticism, the press service noted. Since 1987, she held the position of senior, then leading researcher at the Research Institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts of the Russian Academy of Arts, in which from 1992 to 2022 she headed the Department of Old Russian and Contemporary Church Art. Under her leadership, for 30 years, the staff of the department has acted as a leading link in fundamental scientific research in the field of ancient Russian art. A great merit was the scientific seminar organized and held by her for more than 20 years on ancient Russian and church art with the involvement of Russian and foreign experts. Ryndina was the first among domestic scientists to start studying the problems of studying the ancient Russian carved icon.
