According to the Roscosmos broadcast, the Soyuz-2.1a launch vehicle successfully launched the Progress MS-24 cargo spacecraft into orbit.
The journey to the International Space Station (ISS) is expected to take about two days. Docking with the Zvezda module is planned at 06:50 Moscow time on Friday.
The launch of the Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket with the Progress MS-24 spacecraft took place at 04:08 Moscow time from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. This is the third launch of the Progress MS spacecraft this year. On the side surface of the Soyuz-2.1a were images dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Yekaterinburg and the 100th anniversary of the designer of intercontinental ballistic missiles and spacecraft Vladimir Utkin.
The task of the Progress MS-24 spacecraft is to deliver about 2 500 kg of cargo on the ISS, including 500 kg of fuel for refueling, 420 liters of drinking water, 40 kg of compressed nitrogen in cylinders, as well as approximately 1,535 kg of various equipment and materials in the cargo compartment. Among them are packing for experiments, means of medical control and sanitary and hygienic provision, clothing and food for astronauts. In addition, at the request of Russian cosmonaut Sergei Prokopiev, a figurine of the alien E.T., a character from Steven Spielberg's science fiction film «Alien», will be delivered to the ISS.
