The exterminator was sentenced to 5 years in prison in the case of the death of two Muscovites; they said they ate a watermelon from Magnit

The Lyublinsky District Court of Moscow sentenced Anton Kotov, an employee of the Dez-Klimovsk company, to five years in a penal colony in the case of the death of two local residents. This was reported by the joint press service of the capital's courts.

Kotov was found guilty of performing work and providing services that do not meet safety requirements, which negligently caused the death of two people (Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code).

In September 2021, two women and a 15-year-old girl with signs of acute intoxication were taken to the hospital from an apartment on Sovkhoznaya Street in Lyublino. The teen died along with his grandmother. Before being hospitalized, they said that they had eaten half a watermelon from the Magnit grocery store.

According to investigators, Kotov improperly processed the Magnit trading floor, which caused the poisonous substance to get on the unpackaged watermelons. The exterminator pleaded not guilty.

The head of the Dez-Klimovsk company, Dmitry Kutyev, insisted that Cigatrin, a pest control substance, could not lead to death. “If this remedy were so dangerous to human life and health, would we have existed for all these ten years?” Kutiev emphasized.
