At the debate in the Southern District Military Court, the prosecutor requested seven years in prison for a resident of Krasnodar, Oleg Vazdaev, in the case of an attempted arson of a military registration and enlistment office. This is reported by the human rights project «Solidarity Zone».
Initially, a case was opened against Vazhdaev for the deliberate destruction of property in the amount of 40 million rubles (Article 167 of the Criminal Code), but later the charge was reclassified as an article about a terrorist attack (Part 1 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code). The Krasnodar citizen will be sentenced tomorrow, August 22.
Lawyer Aleksey Avanesyan told Sota in March that Vazhdaev, who was detained in September 2022, was put on a gas mask in the police department on Oktyabrskaya Street “to drown out the screams”, laid on the floor, fixed with a chair placed above him, and were electrocuted. The security forces, according to the defender, demanded from Krasnodar recognition of funding from Ukraine.
The defendant told Avanesyan about the torture when he noticed the mention of a pendant in the case file. Vazdaev explained that, “wishing to stop the electric shocks,” he told the security forces about a parcel with five thousand dollars that was waiting for him at the post office, but only the pendant was in the parcel, which was eventually mentioned in the materials.
Vazhdaev threw two Molotov cocktails in the direction of the military registration and enlistment office of the Western and Kuban districts of Krasnodar on Jan Poluyan Street on the night of September 25th. One of the bottles caught fire near the building, but the other did not break. The Krasnodar resident said that he did this, because after the start of mobilization he was afraid for his loved ones and he himself was afraid of being drafted to war.
