A Petersburger was sent to a pre-trial detention center in the case of incitement to terrorism due to leaflets about the RDK and the Freedom of Russia Legion

The Kirovsky District Court of St. Petersburg sent Fyodor Konovalov, accused of disseminating calls for terrorism, to a pre-trial detention center. This was reported by the joint press service of the courts of the city.

According to the Investigative Committee, a 25-year-old St. terrorist organization.»

As Fontanka clarified, the leaflets were talking about «Russian Volunteer Corps» (RDK) and the Legion «Freedom of Russia». The decision to ban the latter was made by the Supreme Court in March 2023.

According to 78.ru, Konovalov was detained on August 21 with three RDK leaflets. Ilya Cherkasov, director of the Shostakovich Philharmonic, where Konovalov works as a cleaner, told reporters that he was disabled from childhood and could not be fully responsible for his actions.

A case against a Petersburger was initiated under the article on incitement to terrorism on the Internet (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). Usually, this article is persecuted for statements in social networks. It suggests up to seven years in prison as a punishment, while the maximum punishment for simply «calling for extremism» is less — five years.

The investigators justified the tougher qualification of the case by the fact that Konovalov received leaflet layouts via the Internet.
