MOSCOW, 24 Aug. Former owner of the world chess crown Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, who on Thursday won the World Cup for the first time in his career, said that he did not intend to participate in this tournament anymore.
In the finals of the competition in Baku, Carlsen beat the 18-year-old Indian Rameshbaba Pragnanandha with a total score of 2.5 to 1.5 points in a tie-break with a shortened time control and earned 110 thousand dollars.
According to the Norwegian chess player, he decided to participate in the World Cup at the last moment and regretted it during the tournament.
«I would not say that winning the World Cup increases the chances that I will participate in this competition again,» Carlsen was quoted by chess24.com on X (formerly Twitter).
Earlier, 32-year-old Carlsen announced that he would not participate in the World Championship Candidates Tournament.
