MOSCOW, Aug 24 Statue of five-time National Basketball Association champion ( NBA) Kobe Bryant will be installed in front of the Los Angeles Lakers' home arena, according to the team's official account on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
The statue will be erected on February 8, 2024.
“As you know, Kobe has spent his entire 20-year NBA career with the Lakers. From the moment he arrived in town, he felt at home playing in the City of Angels. On behalf of the Lakers, my daughters, and myself, I «I'm very proud to announce that right in the center of Los Angeles across from what is also known as 'The House That Kobe Built', we plan to erect a statue so his legacy will be honored forever,» Bryant's widow Vanessa said.
Bryant died at the age of 42 in a helicopter crash in California on January 26, 2020. His 13-year-old daughter and seven other people were also on board. No one survived.
Five-time NBA champion who retired in 2016 played for the Los Angeles Lakers for 20 seasons, was an 18-time All-Star, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the regular season and twice MVP of the Finals Playoff Series.
