The US state of Alabama intends to to execute a convicted person by nitrogen hypoxia for the first time in the country's history.
According to the AP, the state attorney general's office went to the local supreme court to set an execution date — the sentence was passed against one Kenneth Eugene Smith, who escaped death last year, as they failed to give him a lethal injection. The convict is now about to die from inhaling nitrogen.
At the moment, the method of execution, in which only nitrogen is given to the convict for breathing, is allowed in three states of the United States, but has never been used.
