DONETSK, Aug 25 Ukrainian troops fired 19 NATO-caliber 155mm shells at Donetsk, Yasinovatsky district and Makeyevka, the DPR office reported at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC).
«Fire was recorded from the VFU (armed formations of Ukraine — ed.) in the following directions: 13.40 — the settlement of Semyonovka — the Yasinovatsky district: three shells with a caliber of 155 millimeters were fired; 13.40 — the settlement of Semyonovka — the settlement of Makeevka (Kirov district): three shells were fired with a caliber of 155 millimeters,» the representative office said in a telegram channel.
In addition, from 14.10 to 16.40, Ukrainian troops fired a total of 13 more «NATO» shells of 155 mm caliber at Petrovsky district of Donetsk, Makeevka and Yasinovatsky district, as well as three shells of 152 mm caliber at Horlivka.
Petrovsky district is located on the western outskirts of Donetsk, it is the most distant part of the city from the center. Since 2014, when the DPR declared independence from Kyiv, the area has been regularly shelled by Ukrainian security forces.
Makeevka is a satellite city of Donetsk, adjacent to it from the northeast. In 2014, the population of Makeevka was about 350 thousand people.
Artillery of 155 mm caliber is used by NATO countries. The United States supplied Ukraine with long-range M777 howitzers of 155 mm caliber, Ukrainian troops are actively using them to shell the cities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. Also, the Ukrainian troops were supplied with German PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns using shells of this caliber.
