ST. PETERSBURG, Aug 27 The Lenfilm film studio expressed condolences on the death of director Gleb Panfilov, the film studio reports.
Russian theater and film director, People's Artist of the RSFSR, laureate of the State Prize of Russia Gleb Panfilov passed away on Saturday at the age of 89.
Lenfilm expresses condolences to the family and friends of the Master. Eternal memory,» the message says.
Panfilov in 1966 came to work at Lenfilm, where he was waiting for the first success.

It is noted that Panfilov came to the director's profession from the factory entrance: he worked as a foreman at the Sverdlovsk metal apparatus plant. Later, at the Komsomol work, he created an amateur film studio in the city, where his first films appeared. Then Panfilov graduated from the Higher Directing Courses.
Gleb Panfilov was born on May 21, 1934 in Magnitogorsk. In 1966, he began working at Lenfilm, where he filmed his feature debut «There is no ford in the fire» (received the main prize at the Locarno Film Festival). Panfilov also shot the pictures «I ask for words», «Theme», «Valentina», «Vassa», «Mother» and others, staged performances at Lenkom and the Theater of Nations. In 1970, he made the film «The Beginning» with Inna Churikova in the title role, during the filming they got married and lived together for more than 50 years. People's Artist of the USSR Churikova died on January 14, 2023 in Moscow after a long illness.
