MOSCOW, 27 Aug. Director Gleb Panfilov remains in the history of not only Russian cinema, he was a star of world cinema , said director Konstantin Bogomolov.
Panfilov passed away at the age of 89 on Saturday.

«I think that this director is in the history of not only Soviet and Russian cinema, but also world cinema, he is one of the great stars of world cinema,» he said.
Bogomolov noted that he regularly reviews Panfilov's paintings created in tandem with his wife Inna Churikova.
«These are the great works of Soviet cinema: «I ask for words», and «Beginning», and «Theme», and many other films that will be watched by generations and generations of people who want to comprehend deep, complex, emotional art», — emphasized the director.
According to him, it is very important to remember that there are fewer and fewer people like Panfilov, so it is worth appreciating the opportunity to communicate with them, as well as «keep the memory and gratitude to these people for what they have done for us.»
Panfilov was born on May 21, 1934 in Magnitogorsk. In 1966, he began working at Lenfilm, where he filmed his feature debut «There is no ford in the fire» (received the main prize at the Locarno Film Festival). Panfilov also shot the pictures «I ask for words», «Theme», «Valentina», «Vassa», «Mother» and others, staged performances at Lenkom and the Theater of Nations. In 1970, he made the film «The Beginning» with Inna Churikova in the title role, during the filming they got married and lived together for more than 50 years. People's Artist of the USSR Churikova died on January 14, 2023 in Moscow after a long illness.
