Over 6,000 residents evacuated from flooded areas of Primorye

VLADIVOSTOK, Aug 28 Rescuers over 6,000 people, including 864 children, were evacuated during bad weather from the areas of Primorye flooded by rains and floods, a spokesman for the region's civil defense and emergency situations said.
In Primorye on August 23 and 25 it rained heavily. The water level in the rivers rose, overflows formed over the roads, numerous flooding occurred in the settlements. The governor of the region Oleg Kozhemyako announced the introduction of a state of emergency at the federal level on Friday. Earlier, the region was also seriously affected by Typhoon Hanun and the polar front, when thousands of houses were flooded, a regional emergency regime was introduced.
«Since the beginning of the deterioration of the situation, the fire and rescue units of the Primorsky Territory have evacuated the population from flooded households and transported 6,101 people, including 864 children, by boat crossings,» the agency's interlocutor said.

He added that the most evacuated in the Ussuriysk urban district — 3347 people, in the Oktyabrsky district — 997 people and the Spassky urban district — 600 people.

Earlier, a representative of the department reported that 91 residential buildings remained flooded in Primorye, including 32 apartment buildings. 392 people live in them, of which 78 are children.
