SOCHI, August 30 More than 120 tons of water dropped from helicopters on the fires in Gelendzhik, extinguishing the fire is complicated by strong winds, the press service told reporters Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Krasnodar Territory.
On Tuesday, in Gelendzhik, a 1.5-hectare forest caught fire in the microdistrict Kupriyanov Shchel on Rechnaya Street. A Mi-8 helicopter with a capacity of five tons of water was involved in extinguishing the fire. The mayor of the city Alexei Bogodistov said that the operation of the helicopter is prohibited at night and people extinguish the fire manually. Then the fire area increased to five hectares. Later, according to the mayor of Gelendzhik Alexei Bogodistov, the fire area was 118 hectares. A Be-200 amphibious aircraft was sent to the scene.
«Today, helicopters have already dropped more than 120 tons of water on the fires. Extinguishing continues in difficult conditions with strong winds with gusts of up to 30 m/s and difficult terrain,» the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.

More than 80 pieces of equipment and 450 rescuers were involved in the liquidation.
