The court in Moscow refused to release the former «Minister of Defense of the DPR» Igor Strelkov from the pre-trial detention center

The Moscow City Court considered the appeal against the arrest of the former «Minister of Defense of the DPR» Igor Strelkov (Girkin) in the case of incitement to extremism on the Internet and left him in custody. This is reported by the correspondent of «Mediazona» from the courtroom.

The defense demanded that Girkin be placed under house arrest, since he does not intend to hide and has a disease. The lawyer also asked that gratitude be attached to the case file from the “authorities” of the self-proclaimed DPR and the annexed Crimea, as well as from Vladimir Putin, Alexander Bortnikov and Nikolai Patrushev. These requests were granted by the court.

The arrest of Girkin became known on July 21, the security forces came to his house in Moscow. Later, journalists found the ex-“Minister of Defense of the DPR” in the Meshchansky District Court, at the meeting he had a lawyer by appointment. Later, Alexander Molokhov, Girkin's ally in the Angry Patriots Club, joined the case.

The court sent Strelkov to a pre-trial detention center on charges of publishing two posts on a Telegram channel (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code). According to the lawyer, they talked about the «Crimean issue» and payments to military personnel. Molokhov added that “in the case there is only an incomprehensible survey of a resident of the Crimea, who read Strelkov’s post and experienced some indignation.” Later it became known that the investigation classified the investigation of the case.

Igor Girkin became famous in the spring of 2014, when his detachment seized the government buildings in Ukrainian Slavyansk. Later, he was appointed to the post of «Minister of Defense of the DPR», which he held until mid-August 2014. In November 2022, a court in The Hague sentenced Girkin in absentia to life in prison in the case of the Boeing MH17 that was shot down in 2014 in eastern Ukraine.

After the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine, Girkin began to criticize the Russian leadership, including Putin, for lack of determination. In April 2023, he announced the creation of the Angry Patriots Club public association.
