Abubakar Yangulbaev, a 31-year-old human rights activist from Chechnya, has been added to the «list of terrorists and extremists» maintained by Rosfinmonitoring.
They add those accused and convicted under «extremist» and «terrorist» articles, their Russian accounts are blocked. A week ago, his data appeared in the database of the federal wanted list of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to Yangulbaev himself, a case was opened against him to justify terrorism because of a comment about the murder of the head of Chechnya, Akhmat Kadyrov, on May 9, 2004 in Grozny (part 2 of the article 205.2 CC)
People who are considered involved in the terrorist articles of the Criminal Code have an asterisk in the register, like a human rights activist. The Baza publication claimed that a case was also opened against Yangulbaev under an article on extremist activity due to participation in the streams of the opposition Chechen channel 1ADAT (part 1 of article 282.2 of the Criminal Code).
Abubakar Yangulbaev, who previously worked as a lawyer in a human rights organization “ Committee Against Torture”, was born in the family of a former Chechen judge Saydi Yangulbaev. His two younger brothers, Ibragim and Baysangur, run the 1ADAT telegram channel, which ridicules the current head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, and talks about the abductions of residents of the republic by police.
The Yangulbaev brothers said that they and their father were kidnapped and tortured in 2015 and 2017 because of criticism of the Chechen authorities on the Internet. In January 2022, Chechen security forces arrived at the apartment of ex-judge Saydi Yangulbaev in Nizhny Novgorod and abducted his wife Zarema Musaeva; as a result, she was sent to a colony, and the rest of the family left Russia. The Chechen authorities accused the Yangulbaevs of creating the 1ADAT channel, regularly published threats against them, and held a rally in Grozny where their portraits were burned. A court in Grozny recognized 1ADAT as an extremist organization.
Two brothers of Abubakar Yangulbaev were already on the «list of terrorists and extremists.» 29-year-old Ibragim Yangulbaev was accused of justifying terrorism because of posts on the 1ADAT channel, and 24-year-old Baysangur was accused of extremism.
Former judge Saydi Yangulbaev and his son Abubakar deny participation in the work of 1ADAT. Elena Milashina, a columnist for Novaya Gazeta, also noted that human rights activist Abubakar Yangulbaev has nothing to do with the 1ADAT channel.
