PRAGUE, Aug 30 Hackers who attacked five banks in the Czech Republic on Wednesday demanded the end of support for Ukraine, the CTK news agency reported, citing the National Directorate for Cyber and Information Security (NUKIB) and experts PwC.
Novinky previously reported that five Czech banks are experiencing technical problems on Wednesday, in particular, the Internet banking service is unavailable. According to Fio Bank, this is due to a cyberattack from abroad.
“Komerční Banka, ČSOB, Air Bank, Fio Banka and Česká spořitelna encountered technical problems on Wednesday after a so-called DDoS attack that affected the availability of some services. The website of the Prague Stock Exchange was also attacked. Attackers from a (pro-Russian) hacker group NoName057 (16) demanded that institutions stop supporting Ukraine,» the agency said, citing data from NUKIB and cybersecurity experts from the international network of consulting companies PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
“These are DDoS attacks that affect the availability of some banking systems. We cooperate with the attacked entities and provide them with the maximum possible assistance in resolving this situation,” NUKIB spokeswoman Eva Raylikhova told the agency.
According to PwC cybersecurity expert Marek Nejedla, bank customers should not worry about their deposits in this case, we are talking only about the temporary unavailability of some services.
«In this case, the actions of the NoName057(16) group are politically motivated, they demand that institutions stop supporting Ukraine. In this type of attack, clients do not need to worry about the fate of their funds. The only negative result of this type of cyber attack is a temporary withdrawal failure of web access for bank customers. In reality… there is no need to worry too much,» Nejedly said.
