GELENDZHIK, Aug 31A large number of junipers and Pitsunda pines were damaged in a fire in Gelendzhik, said the director of the Safari Park, Nikolai Mashinskiy, located in relative proximity to the boundaries of the fire.

According to him, on the territory of the Safari Park there is also a nursery where juniper is grown artificially. Only in the territory of the park on the slopes of the Markotkhsky ridge, 1.5 thousand seedlings of this plant were planted.
“A large number of Pitsunda pines burned down. Down the ridge there was a green ridge — these are all artificially planted pines in the 60s on the territory of the bald mountains. They were planted along the Caucasian ridge at the foot. Now we have lost all this for at least 50 years. pine for more than 60 years has been able to grow from 20-30 centimeters in diameter and reach over six meters in height,» the source added.
Pitsunda pine is a Red Book plant. Trees grow on the Black Sea coast from the city of Anapa to Cape Pitsunda in Abkhazia. According to the Governor of Kuban Veniamin Kondratyev, the assessment of damage to the forest fund after the fire in Gelendzhik is still ahead, but it is clear that the forest will be restored for a long time.
On Tuesday, in Gelendzhik, a forest caught fire on an area of 1.5 hectares in the microdistrict Kupriyanov Shchel on Rechnaya Street. On Wednesday, the area of the fire reached 118 hectares. The regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that three Mi-8 helicopters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and two Be-200 aircraft were involved. The fire was localized on an area of approximately 100 hectares, there was no threat to infrastructure facilities and there were no victims. According to rescuers, extinguishing the fire is complicated by strong winds with gusts of up to 30 meters per second and difficult terrain. On Thursday at 11.00 the authorities announced the complete elimination of the fire.
