MOSCOW, August 30 The Moscow Taganka Theater visited Krasnoyarsk on tour. The famous troupe showed the public two performances: «The Cherry Orchard. Comedy» staged by director Yuri Muravitsky and «Kiss. Cavalry» staged by Denis Azarov, the organizers report.
The tour was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Polyus company. 
Denis Azarov turned to the story of Isaac Babel «The Kiss» in 2022. This text is one of 38 from the Cavalry collection, a love story against the backdrop of the chaos of the civil war. The director placed the action in a conditional, almost empty space. He defines this performance as a «half dream vision». A minimum of words and a maximum of sensations is the canvas within which the relationship between a man and a woman is built. The characters are five heroes and seven Red Army soldiers, for each Azarov composed his own «dream scene». The production of «Kiss. Cavalry» became one of the main premieres of the Taganka Theater last season, receiving positive reviews from critics and the public.
The performance «The Cherry Orchard. Comedy» in the interpretation of Yuri Muravitsky appeared in the troupe's repertoire in 2021. The theater notes that this is a bold rethinking of Chekhov's classic text, embodied in a pop stylist. The Cherry Orchard is Chekhov's last play, a kind of testament, and it is very difficult to play it as a comedy. Muravitsky emphasizes that he sought to create a live performance about how «we are all trying to overcome this very» Chekhov longing «into which we inevitably fall every time.»
During the tour, theater director Irina Apeksimova noted that it was important for Taganka to have the opportunity to see a regional audience, and thanks to the support of the Polyus company, they opened the 60th season with a tour in Krasnoyarsk. «We brought two bright, diverse performances, as the audience in this city is very familiar and very happy that they received such a warm welcome,» she said.
